Venmo: You blocked me because I’m abroad

By Daily Hodl Staff

Each day there’s a new reason to love Bitcoin, the blockchain and the various platforms that are trying to disengage us from bankers, bureaucracy and bogus terms of service. A few of the altcoin players in the Venmo-Paypal space are TenX, Bitquence, Monaco and Centra.

These payment blockchain platforms don’t get into your extracurricular business and try to monitor your whereabouts or restrict access to your account based on where your physical body rises and shines, or which airline terminal greeted you the night before. Their goal is to service you wherever you may be. Are you a digital nomad? No problem!

If you have a Venmo account in the US and you decide to hop a plane to a foreign territory, guess what? Bye bye to account access. Why? Because if your computer is traveling with you in said foreign territory, any Venmo action is automatically considered “international”. International transactions are off-limits, because…

That’s correct, your computer carries a flag wherever it goes and instantly makes your money untouchable. Because…Venmo wants to make their platform more secure – apparently by enforcing borders.

Hey,

This is Venmo support. I understand you’re having trouble accessing your account and would like immediate access since a few payments were made to your account, no worries, lets see what I can do for you!

I went ahead and looked through your account and can see that, you recently took a few actions on your account from abroad. Are you currently not physically located in the U.S?

If so, then unfortunately, you will not be able to login to your Venmo account when you are outside of the United States. This is due to recent changes and improvements in Venmo’s security to better protect Venmo’s users and their accounts. I apologize for any inconvenience. In order to maintain the highest standard of quality and protection, a user must be located within the U.S. to use our services.

In the meantime, I recommend trying to sign up to our parent company PayPal, they allow international transactions, so you would be able to transfer those payments to your bank.

We will be able to further assist you with any login issues upon your return to the U.S.!

Hope this doesn’t cause you too much inconvenience, have a great trip

Cheers,

 ???
