The National Football League’s (NFL) championship game is one of the most-viewed events in America, and FTX chief executive officer Sam Bankman-Fried says that the massive audience is what prompted the exchange to pursue a commercial spot.

Says Bankman-Fried,

“Our message throughout this year has been that crypto is safe, accessible, and ready for the mainstream.

We’re inviting everyone to check it out, and [we’re] here to help them on their journey. There is no bigger, more mainstream event to share a message like that than the Super Bowl.”

The previous Super Bowl attracted 96 million viewers. The event’s popularity gives FTX a chance to promote crypto and its exchange to millions of sports fans.

FTX did not reveal the content of the ad or how much it cost, but NBC has been charging as high as $6.5 million for commercial spots in the upcoming Super Bowl LVI.

The ad purchase comes as the exchange pushes to attract clients in the sports industry. Earlier this year, FTX secured the naming rights to the NBA basketball team Miami Heat’s home arena for $135 million.
