First Financial Security is preparing to pay affected individuals a total of $1.2 million in cash and credit monitoring services in a class action settlement.
The national insurance agency agreed to the resolution of claims stemming from its October 17th, 2023 data breach.
The lawsuit was launched because the company allegedly failed to adequately protect customer data from unauthorized access.
Plaintiffs accuse First Financial Security of security lapses that enabled the breach, potentially exposing personal and medical details, including names, dates of birth and Social Security numbers, and protected health information. Eligible claimants can receive up to $500 for documented out-of-pocket losses such as bank fees, credit expenses, communication charges, credit report costs and up to three hours of lost time at a rate of $20 per hour.
On top of the payout, members of the class action lawsuit are eligible to receive two years of credit monitoring and identity theft insurance through CyEx Medical Shield Complete by submitting the enrollment code on their copy of the settlement notice here.
Claimants may submit their claim form via this portal or send it via mail to the Claims Administrator on or before July 20th, 2026. Class members can object or opt out of the settlement by September 18th, 2026.
The company denies all allegations but agreed to settle to avoid further costs.
The final approval hearing is scheduled on November 9th, 2026.
