From a cyber crime bust to a new partnership at VeChain, here’s a look at some of the headlines breaking today in the world of crypto.
Bitcoin (BTC)
British authorities say they’ve arrested a hacker holding more than $650,000 in Bitcoin. 26 year-old Grant West is accused of carrying out a “one-man cyber crime wave” by stealing personal information from 165,000 people and selling it on the dark web for BTC.
Ethereum (ETH)
One of the largest banks in the Philippines is launching a pilot test to see how the Ethereum blockchain can increase the security and transparency of its transactions. To do so, UnionBank is partnering with ConsenSys, which is an Ethereum-based enterprise solution created by Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin.
Vechain (VEN)
VeChain is partnering with a Chinese state-owned land developer that’s heavily involved in multiple industries, government bodies and research institutions. Shanghai Lingang Economic Development Group will use the VeChainThor Blockchain “on a commercial level alongside events to facilitate knowledge transfer with organizations, both inside and outside of governmental industries.”
Ripple (XRP)
After a recent string of announcements, Ripple is getting more exposure in the mainstream, this time thanks to Apple. The tech giant has just added XRP to its stocks app, in addition to Bitcoin and Ethereum. The app pairs the cryptos with a long list of currencies, including USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, JPY and CNY.
