DISH has added Bitcoin Cash (BCH) as a payment option. The US direct-broadcast satellite provider is the fourth largest pay TV provider in the country with over 13 million subscribers. The Colorado-based company is publicly traded on the NASDAQ.
DISH is migrating from its former payment processor to BitPay, allowing BCH as a payment option.
As an early adopter of cryptocurrency, DISH first started accepting Bitcoin payments in 2014.
BitPay, the largest global blockchain payments provider, will process customer payments for Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash.
“We’ve added Bitcoin Cash just as we chose to accept Bitcoin to serve customers who have adopted a new way of doing business,” said John Swieringa, DISH executive vice president and chief operating officer. “We have a steady volume of customers paying with cryptocurrency each month, and BitPay will allow us to continue offering more choice and convenience to our customers.”
The integration of cryptocurrency by the entertainment provider marks another milestone for crypto and Bitcoin Cash. Customers can pay for monthly subscriptions, as well as pay-per-view movies and events by logging into the online dashboard. BitPay then converts the payments into US dollars at the point of sale.
DISH accepted its first Bitcoin payment from Austin and Beccy Craig who chronicled their journey as early crypto adopters in the documentary Life on Bitcoin.
