– Joel Comm and Travis Wright, The Bad Crypto Podcast
Drop in on podcast episode #173 of Bad Crypto, hosted by futurists Joel Comm and Travis Wright. Their show covers blockchain and how it will be impacted by artificial intelligence, along with a long view on how rapidly the world is morphing – autonomous driving vehicles, 5G, smart robots, sex robots, trading bots and tech that will change our physiology and our jobs.
Their guest in this episode is Byron Reese, CEO of Gigaom and author of “The Fourth Age: Smart Robots, Conscious Computers, and the Future of Humanity.
You don’t starve to death in the modern era because you have no food.
You starve to death because you have no money. – Byron Reese
The good news is that Reese is an optimist. He believes that the approaching Fourth Age of humanity will be the best one yet.
Humanity and the Ages
First Age – 100,000 years ago, we harnessed fire, which led to language.
Second Age – 10,000 years ago, we developed agriculture, which led to cities and warfare.
Third Age – 5,000 years ago, we invented the wheel and writing, which led to the nation state.
If you believe the Fourth Age is on the horizon and that robots and computers will reach a new level of cognitive power and consciousness, you can imagine that the definition of people – who we are and what we do – will change.
