Previous generations may remember him as Captain Kirk from Star Trek, newer generations may recognize him as the guy in the Priceline commercials, newest generations may know William Shatner for his recent Ethereum-loving, cryptocurrency-supporting tweetstorm.
Starting November 6th, Shatner took to Twitter to give Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin and seemingly innocuous “thumbs up.”
This set off a wave of responses, including pushback from a user named “premine apologist” calling Buterin a “literal scammer” and questioning Ethereum’s ability to be decentralized.
Shatner came to Buterin’s defense, tweeting,
When the user came back and called Buterin “dangerous,” Shatner answered,
Shatner’s knowledge and understanding of Ethereum and blockchain technology has shocked many crypto fans across the platform, earning many “welcome” tweets from the community.
Shatner also responded to another fan impressed with his coin knowledge.
Shatner was sure to include his trademark witty humor, at one point busting out some crypto poetry to school a tweeter.
While this is the most concentrated number of crypto-related tweets from the Hollywood star, this isn’t the first time Shatner has mentioned crypto.
Last year, he publicly endorsed token sales and in June he announced that he would represent Solar Alliance, a Bitcoin mining facility in Illinois powered by solar energy.
