Litecoin founder Charlie Lee is appearing in an upcoming German TV documentary about Bitcoin, blockchains and the future of the internet.
The crowd-funded film, “Cryptopia”, features leading blockchain developers and insiders. In a preview of the interview, Lee outlines Litecoin’s advantages over Bitcoin and defines the word “shitcoin”.
“I think it’s just a derogatory term people use on coins that they don’t like. People have different definitions for it. I think for Bitcoin maximilists, people who only care about Bitcoin, everything else is a shitcoin.
In my point of view, I think a coin that is kind of a scam is a shitcoin. So people create coins just to get rich from it, print a lot of tokens out of thin air, trying to pump the price up, make a lot of money from it. And that’s not really providing a lot of value to the world.”
“Cryptopia” is directed by German filmmaker Torsten Hoffmann who made his directorial debut in 2015 with the release of “Bitcoin: The End of Money As We Know It”, which generated approximately 500,000 downloads via BitTorrent, Vimeo on Demand, Amazon Prime and iTunes.
Kickstarter donations for the latest round of funding for “Cryptopia” wrapped today to overwhelming success as the project raised roughly 200% of its goal of $16,156.
Screen Australia, the country’s film commission, is covering 40% of the film’s budget. It’s slated for release in 2019.
