Twitter and Square CEO Jack Dorsey, a Bitcoin bull and blockchain advocate, says he’s hiring engineers and designers to create new ways to bring Bitcoin to the masses.
In a shout-out to his 4.16 million Twitter followers, Dorsey tells developers who are interested in building open source Bitcion and crypto projects to send him a direct message at the newly formed Square Crypto.
“Are you currently contributing to bitcoin-core or other crypto ecosystem projects for free in your off-time? We’d like to pay you to do it full-time. If interested, DM @SqCrypto, and follow for updates on our progress. Thank you!”
If all goes according to plan, Dorsey’s financial services company Square, Inc. will hire three to four crypto engineers and one designer. If they want, the full-time developers can receive compensation in Bitcoin.
#BitcoinTwitter and #CryptoTwitter! Square is hiring 3-4 crypto engineers and 1 designer to work full-time on open source contributions to the bitcoin/crypto ecosystem. Work from anywhere, report directly to me, and we can even pay you in bitcoin! Introducing @SqCrypto. Why?

Dorsey says design is an underfunded area in the crypto ecosystem.
“Great design will help more people access this technology faster and better.”
He explains,
“Last week I was considering my hack week project, and asked @brockm, ‘What is the most impactful thing we could do for the bitcoin community?’ His answer was simple. ‘Pay people to make the broader crypto ecosystem better.’ This resonated with me immediately, so we’re doing it.”
In 2018 Dorsey tweeted a link to Bitcoin’s white paper to his Twitter followers, marking the 10-year anniversary of the paper’s release.
Dorsey only holds Bitcoin in his crypto portfolio. He has previously stated that he believes Bitcoin will become the world’s “single currency,” because it’s resilient, principled and native to internet ideals. He also calls it a “great brand,” and believes that a massive acceleration toward Bitcoin and blockchain adoption is on the horizon.
“I think there’s a massive acceleration that is going to happen within the next 10 years, because the generation growing up only knowing these technologies exist – pairing AI with blockchain, and being able to have this amazingly accessible environment to program in.
So that’s what excites me. The acceleration points rather than the specific points on the timeline.”
