President Trump and Elon Musk’s Alma Mater Target 40 Million for Crypto and Blockchain Course

The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania is launching a new online business course in collaboration with Coursera. “Fintech: Foundations and Applications of Financial Technologies” will cover core topics that address the rapidly changing landscape of finance and business operations: payments, cryptocurrency and blockchain, lending, crowdfunding, modern investing and insurtech.

Wharton’s Fintech Specialization will feature lectures and case studies from Penn faculty, including Wharton professors and Penn Law professors, and industry. Participants include investment advisor Vanguard and mobile payment processor Square which operates Cash App, which allows users to send and receive money, including Bitcoin.

“You’ll learn the essential components of technology-driven financial strategies, from complex regulations to cryptocurrency to portfolio optimization. You’ll also learn how modern investment strategies deploy technology to produce optimal results, explore the disruptive force of changing payment methods, analyze the changing regulatory landscape, and gain a deeper understanding of robo-advising, crowdfunding, peer-to-peer lending, and blockchain.

By the end of this Specialization, you’ll be able to make informed decisions about deploying financial technologies for yourself or for your business, giving you a competitive advantage in using the latest financial innovations.”

Course organizers hope the material will interest students, small business owners and anyone interested in the intersection between finance and technology.

UPenn produces the highest number of billionaires in the world, and Wharton is the highest ranking business school in the US, according to U.S. News & World Report. US President Donald Trump earned his bachelor of science in economics from Wharton in 1968. Tesla CEO Elon Musk graduated in 1994. Other well-known alumni include Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Fidelity vice chairman Peter Lynch and CBS founder William Paley.
