Russell Okung is doubling down on his support for Bitcoin. The LA Chargers offensive tackle today tweeted to his 160,000 followers that he should do a Bitcoin giveaway.
Okung’s latest BTC shout-out follows a request he made in May to put the world’s most popular currency on the mainstream spotlight. He asked the NFL to pay his salary in Bitcoin.
He added,
“How dope would it be to see an ESPN headline with an athlete being paid in $BTC?”
Although the league declined, Okung says players are turning to him for information about cryptocurrency.
“A couple of players are hitting me up about Bitcoin. Yes, I’m serious! Welcome to the future.”
Okung co-founded the Greater Foundation to support the next generation of innovators through mentoring and leadership development.
Launched last year, the foundation will close its doors in August following the NFL player’s diagnosis in June. He suffered an embolism caused by blood clots and may miss joining the LA Chargers at training camp, which runs through August 16 in Costa Mesa, California.
