A network of 1,016 post offices in Croatia is piloting a new crypto program to convert fiat into Bitcoin, Ethereum, Stellar, Ripple (XRP) and EOS, according to a press release.
“The goal of the Croatian Post is to offer the possibility of replacing crypto valued in all major settlements and tourist centers in Croatia.”
The Zadar post office pilot is a collaboration with Electrocoin, a Croatian company which has been operating the cryptocurrency exchange Bitcoin-mjenjacnica since 2014.
Zadar is not the first post office network in Europe to support cryptocurrencies.
Last year, the Austrian Post launched a program with BitPanda To Go to allow customers to buy Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, IOTA, Ripple, Dash, Komodo and Bitcoin Cash at over 400 post office branches across the country.
In May, Eligma launched its Elipay system in crypto-friendly Croatia where shoppers can now pay for goods and services online and in physical stores using Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Ether (ETH), among other cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin.com CEO Roger Ver initiated the first transaction in Croatia using BCH to pay for his stay at the Navis Design Hotel.
