NFL Bitcoiner Russell Okung is gearing up for an educational cryptocurrency event he’s hosting in Los Angeles on September 1st.
“Would you like to sponsor Satoshi Giveaways that will begin Sept 1st and continue approximately every week until SuperBowl?”
Okung’s goal is to introduce newbies to the world of Bitcoin, explaining how it works and how it can revamp the monetary system and address economic issues worldwide by creating a more open, inclusive and transparent financial system.
His website Bitcoinis.com features a call-to-action for sponsors who can participate in marketing efforts designed to spread crypto awareness.
The LA Chargers offensive tackle says he received 1,500 responses when he asked users on Twitter to complete the phrase “Bitcoin is…” The replies sparked an open dialog about Bitcoin’s strengths and weaknesses with responses ranging from “Bitcoin is great” to “Bitcoin is not scaleable and expensive.”
Okung says his mission is to explain why Bitcoin is freedom.
“I feel a sense of responsibility to articulate and share the liberation I continue to experience as I grow in my understanding of what Bitcoin is_. I’ve been fortunate to have access to the greatest thinkers and leaders in this emerging industry that was first imagined by Satoshi Nakamoto a decade ago in 2009.
They are not just changing the world, they are in fact helping humanity evolve on multiple fronts at a time when rapid progress is demanded of us collectively. Introducing them to as many people as possible is one of the main reasons I’m so passionate about Bitcoin and why my team and I are committed to curating an event aimed at mainstream adoption.”

The LA Charger says fellow players have asked him for advice about cryptocurrencies. As for his request in May to have the NFL pay his salary in Bitcoin, Okung hasn’t given up.
He adds,
“I’m still working on that part.”
