Ripple-backed XRPL Labs creator Wietse Wind is teaming up with crypto-friendly platform Uphold to keep his popular tipping service, the XRP Tip Bot, alive.
In a Coil post, Wind explains why the XRP Tip Bot was on the brink of shutting down due to a new regulatory bill in the Netherlands that requires cryptocurrency custodians to register their businesses. The software developer says that time constraints involved in the registration process, along with exorbitant costs, drove him to get in touch with membership-based financial services company Uphold.

With the new partnership, Wind says that XRP Tip Bot users will have to link an Uphold account to continue using the service. By linking their accounts, users will have access to Uphold’s wide-range of services including conversion of fiat currency to crypto and vice versa, as well as connecting a user’s Tip Bot balance to multiple social media platforms.
The XRP Tip Bot, which allows users to send XRP to one another by tweeting a string of commands, touts 62,000 accounts and 10,000 active app users. The platform has processed nearly 1 million tips worth 2.55 million XRP since Wind started the project two and a half years ago.
