Update: The historic launch has been called off with just 17 minutes to go, due to weather.
SpaceX and NASA are gearing up for a historic launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
SpaceX is preparing to launch astronauts Douglas Hurley and Robert Behnken to the International Space Station at 4:33 pm ET today.
The mission has a “go” to proceed and will be the first space launch from US soil since 2011. However, with all eyes on the countdown, the weather is currently trending against the launch. The backup launch opportunity is on Saturday, May 30th.
If the weather cooperates, propellant loading will continue. SpaceX’s capsule Crew Dragon has an extensive launch escape system in the event of an anomaly.
The private American aerospace company SpaceX was founded in 2002 by tech billionaire and Tesla chief executive Elon Musk. If successful, the mission would be the company’s first-ever crewed mission in its 18-year history.
