By Daily Hodl Staff

The move, which happened on Saturday, is one of the largest in Bitcoin’s history.

It dwarfs a $1.1 billion transfer of 88,857 BTC made in October of last year that was widely regarded as the largest dollar value Bitcoin transaction ever made.

A look at the sending address involved in Saturday’s transaction shows the cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex is behind the transfer.

According to Bitinfocharts, the address is a cold wallet owned by the cryptocurrency exchange.

Although the exchange has not released a statement on the transaction, it has a history of moving large amounts of BTC on a fairly regular basis.

At time of publishing, the cold wallet remains the third-wealthiest Bitcoin address on record. Even after Saturday’s giant transfer, the wallet holds 98,511 BTC worth about $4.3 billion.
