Crypto whales are on the move, circulating billions of dollars worth of Bitcoin in one day as the asset battles to remain above $50,000.
In the past 24 hours, Bitcoin whales have moved over $6 billion worth of BTC.
The large BTC transfers were first picked up by blockchain tracker and analytics tool Whale Alert early on Thursday.
It appears that most of these large transactions can be traced back to one wallet at the crypto custody company Xapo. Coinbase bought Xapo’s institutional business back in August of 2019.
The original whale sent 6,000 BTC worth $321 million from Xapo in one transaction, according to the blockchain search engine Blockchair. 251 BTC went to an unknown wallet that has to date received and moved over 306,000 Bitcoin in its year of existence.
The second receiving wallet took in and subsequently sent 5,749.9 BTC worth $309.6 million from crypto exchange Binance to two separate unknown wallets in one transaction, sparking flurry of additional large BTC movements.
This pattern of transactions continued, with the original Xapo withdrawal appearing to precipitate much of the large BTC transactions that occurred within the 24-hour period.
Here’s a list of those and other large BTC movements from the past day.
