The content-sharing platform LimeWire is integrating a number of cryptocurrencies for customers to purchase a new token for the ecosystem.
According to LimeWire, the latest crypto added to the payment methods to purchase the LimeWire Token (LMWR) is XRP.
LimeWire added XRP after saying on Twitter they would do so if the idea got enough support through retweets.
“Calling the Ripple community today! Should we integrate XRP as a payment method for the ongoing public sale of our LMWR Token? 300 retweets and XRP will be live on our platform tomorrow!”
As of writing, there are more than 1,900 retweets.
Says LimeWire in an update,
“Integration is going live in about two hours.”
In addition to XRP, customers have the opportunity to purchase the token via the LimeWire website using such virtual assets as Ethereum (ETH), USD Coin (USDC), Tether (USDT), Bitcoin (BTC), Binance Coin (BNB), Algorand (ALGO), Pepe (PEPE), Dogecoin (DOGE), Polygon (MATIC) and Cardano (ADA).
The once-popular file-sharing site LimeWire shut down in 2010. But last year, LimeWire relaunched to operate as a marketplace for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and has since evolved into a membership platform.
Says the Web3 project,
“The new LimeWire, initially relaunched in mid-2022 as a marketplace to buy, sell and trade digital collectibles, has now evolved into a fully-fledged membership platform that enables creators, artists and brands to create gated, membership-based communities, allowing them to connect with their most loyal fans and followers.”
According to LimeWire, the LMWR token will have multiple uses in the ecosystem, such as token rewards for loyalty and activity, community voting rights and creator royalties.
Says LimeWire,
“LMWR will be deeply integrated into all aspects of the LimeWire platform. Perks range from token rewards in exchange for loyalty and activity, to community voting rights and discounts all the way to royalty distribution.”
Once the LimeWire Token public sale is complete, the token is slated for listings on at least four crypto exchanges, according to LimeWire.
