Top US-based crypto exchange platform Coinbase is launching a new feature that would allow private direct messaging between Ethereum (ETH) addresses.
In a new thread, Coinbase says that it is rolling out a new decentralized chat feature for its wallet powered by web3 chat protocol XMPT that aims to grant users ownership of their chats.
The new function also allows users to search for others or connect with each other through the use of a QR code.
“Say hello to messaging on Coinbase Wallet. Introducing a new way to connect with your community. Now you own your chats as well as your crypto…
Share your personal QR code and invite friends to chat. Or connect with new people through search…
Fully encrypted, private, secure. Like all of your digital assets, your chats are fully yours to own. Coinbase does not have access to them, only you do. Your messages are end-to-end encrypted and stored in XMTP’s decentralized and secure communication network.”
The new chat feature also includes the ability to import and export chat logs to other projects, and gas-free transfers of stablecoin USD Coin (USDC) over layer-2 scaling solution Polygon (MATIC).
“Take your chats anywhere. Messaging is interoperable, meaning you can import your chats to Coinbase Wallet or take them with you to social DApps (decentralized applications).
Send payments easily, gas-free. Send USDC instantly to anyone, anywhere on Polygon without paying gas fees in the app.”
