Binance founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao is busy with a new project that aims to reduce the world’s illiteracy rate.
In March, Zhao announced plans to launch the Giggle Academy, a platform that provides free education to the masses.
In a new post on social media platform X, Zhao gives an update on the initiative, saying that he is now in the process of hiring more people for the zero-revenue educational platform.
“We got a team of 10 now. Some part-time, some full-time. All remote. We have calls together three times a week, in addition to adhoc smaller chats.
Hiring is ongoing. I do a dozen interviews a week. We are targeting a 15 people team initially.
I am talking to many people and trying many Ed apps. Learning a lot. A lot going on”.
Zhao is working on the initiative as he awaits his sentencing on April 30th after pleading guilty to money laundering charges.
The Canadian national says he chose to work on a project focused on education instead of those that address other issues such as climate change, world hunger and corruption because it involves his area of expertise.
Says Zhao in the concept paper for Giggle Academy,
“I(CZ)thought about what to do next for a few months. I need to find something that has the maximum positive impact that I could achieve in this world. This would require me to do something that I am good at and scalable.”
