India-based crypto exchange WazirX is increasing a reward offer in hopes of recovering the $230 million that hackers stole from the platform.
In a new announcement, WazirX says they are increasing the reward to 10% of the stolen funds, or $23 million.
“We invite white hat hackers, blockchain forensics experts and cybersecurity professionals from around the world to join this critical mission and protect the integrity of the crypto ecosystem. For more details on how you can assist in the recovery, please visit our updated blog post.”
White hat is a computer term used to describe an ethical security hacker.
WazirX says that the reward program is expected to run for three months, but could be extended.
“This reward will be disbursed only after and subject to the successful receipt of the stolen amount by WazirX. The said rewards shall be payable in USDT or in the form of recovered funds at the sole discretion of WazirX.”
The platform was hacked last week.
Blockchain tracking firm Lookonchain said that the stolen funds include $52.5 million worth of Ethereum (ETH), $102 million worth of Shiba Inu (SHIB), $11.24 million worth of Polygon (MATIC), $7.6 million worth of Pepe (PEPE), $3.5 million worth of Gala (GALA) and $5.79 million in Tether (USDT).
Lookonchain also said that the hackers were quickly selling the digital assets.
