A widespread outage has hit Amazon Web Services (AWS), disrupting major websites and apps around the globe.
The issue, centered in AWS’s US-East-1 region, began around midnight EST, causing server errors, timeouts and failed connections.
The website health tracker Downdetector lit up as users reported issues en masse.
Amazon’s own services, including its e-commerce platform, reported images not loading and cart errors, with 52% of complaints tied to its mobile app.
Reddit users faced app and website failures, with 54% reporting mobile issues and internal server errors peaking.
Users in the US and beyond reported digital fallout, from smart home failures in Ring and Alexa to banking app and Venmo glitches, as well as airline check in problems.
The disruption also extended to Fortnite, Snapchat, Disney+, and Canva, marking one of the largest internet failures since last year’s CrowdStrike incident.
AWS identified a potential root cause by 5:19 AM ET, but recovery timelines remain unclear.
