Federal prosecutors in Minnesota have announced that the state’s Housing Stabilization Services (HSS) program has been exploited for millions of dollars.
US Attorney Joe Thompson for the District of Minnesota says in a press conference that the state’s HSS program, which was designed to help people with disabilities and seniors find and keep housing, is “riddled with fraud.”
[adinserter block="1"]Thompson says Minnesota is laying charges against Moktar Hassan Aden, Mustafa Dayib Ali, Khalid Ahmed Dayib, Abdifitah Mohamud Mohamed, Christopher Adesoji Falade, Emmanuel Oluwademilade Falade, Asad Ahmed Adow and Anwar Ahmed Adow for their role in the fraud scheme against the state’s HHS program.
“Hundreds of companies enrolled in the program and began claiming to provide housing stabilization services to thousands of clients throughout the state of Minnesota. Many of these companies operated out of dilapidated storefronts or run-down office buildings that were full of other fraudulent healthcare companies…”
According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), the defendants – Dayib, Ali and Aden – allegedly completed paperwork to enroll in Aden’s company, dubbed Brilliant Minds Services LLC, as an HHS Provider. They then allegedly submitted fake and inflated bills while purportedly providing housing, consulting, transitioning and sustaining services to people in need.
“I want to be clear on the scope of the crisis. What we see are schemes stacked upon schemes, draining resources meant for those in need. It feels never-ending. I have spent my career as a fraud prosecutor and the depth of the fraud in Minnesota takes my breath away. The fraud must be stopped.”
