Scammer Drains $25,000 From Frisbee Hall of Famer by Masquerading As U.S. Bank Representative: Report

by Rhodilee Jean Dolor

in Scams, Hacks & Breaches

A former world class frisbee player and Freestyle Players Association (FPA) Hall of Famer has reportedly lost $25,000 to a fraudulent bank scheme.

Robert “Frisbee” Coleman’s ordeal started earlier this month when he received a call from someone who claimed to be working at U.S. Bank, reports THV11.

The caller used a spoofed number, which Coleman says made the scam convincing. He says the scammer also appeared to have access to information about his account that he thought only a banker would know.

“I guess, when I read them a code, they had complete access to my account…What they ended up doing is, they said they were the fraud department, but they were actually scamming me out of my money.”

Coleman has been working with U.S. Bank to recover the stolen money but he still has to wait to recover some of the funds. It is also possible that he will never be able to get all the money back.

He says he should have hung up the phone when he received the call and contacted his bank.

Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin says that bad actors claiming to represent financial institutions are common.

“[A]rkansans can protect themselves by remembering that no legitimate bank or credit union will call you and ask you to move money over the phone. The best response if contacted by someone claiming to be with a financial institution is to hang up, and then look up a legitimate number for that organization and call it to independently verify.”
