A major dental benefits provider that administers dental insurance and benefits programs for millions of members says it has been hit by cybersecurity breach.
DentaQuest says attackers gained entry to a section of its systems.
“DentaQuest is actively managing a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to a limited portion of our network.
Upon discovery of the initial incident, we took immediate action to secure our environment, contain the attack and mitigate the threat.”
The data breach site HaveIBeenPwned says the leak affects about 2.6 million accounts, with names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, government-issued IDs and health insurance information at risk.
The company says it contained the threat quickly, engaged forensic experts and law enforcement, and is now determining the full scope.
No disruption to services occurred, but notifications to affected individuals are planned.
Class action lawsuits are under investigation because impacted members pursue remedies for the exposure of highly sensitive health and personal data.
